Cctv news: On May 18th, the State Council held the first national conference on comprehensive risk survey of natural disasters. In response to a reporter’s question, Wang Zhihua, Director of Disaster Reduction and Public Service Department of China Meteorological Bureau, said that in this natural disaster risk survey, the meteorological department undertook the risk survey of nine meteorological disasters, including rainstorm, drought, typhoon, high temperature, low temperature, wind hail, snowstorm, lightning and sandstorm, among which the wind hail disaster covered strong wind, hail and tornado. China Meteorological Bureau concentrated the excellent expert resources of the whole department, set up an expert group, mobilized the professional and technical backbones of meteorological departments at the national, provincial, municipal and county levels, and actively carried out the risk survey of meteorological disasters. At present, it is being actively promoted and some pilot results have been achieved.
Wang Zhihua pointed out that it is of great significance to carry out meteorological disaster risk survey to improve disaster prevention and control capabilities.
On the one hand, we can better find out the risk points, risk areas and disaster thresholds that may be caused by all kinds of disastrous weather. To promote the development of meteorological disaster risk early warning business, we can not only predict tomorrow’s weather, but also predict what impact such weather may have, and where the risk of disaster is high and needs to be guarded, thus promoting the transformation from disastrous weather forecast to meteorological disaster risk early warning, greatly improving the pertinence of early warning information, helping to better play the role of the first line of defense for meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation, and providing stronger support for comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation.
On the other hand, the meteorological disaster risk zoning formed by the census can guide the whole society to scientifically set meteorological disaster prevention standards for infrastructure in various regions, which is more conducive to promoting the construction of resilient cities and resilient villages and fundamentally improving the ability to resist various meteorological disasters.
